IRISH FARMERS

ANNUITIES UNPAID

COMMISSION TAKES ACTION

ISSUES AT BY-ELECTIONS

FIANNA FAIL ACTIVITY

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received November 21, 6.25 p.m.) Times Cable DUBLIN, Nov. 20 The Fianna Fail (de Valera party) is taking the initiative in forcing the by-elec-tions in East Cork and Waterford with the idea of distracting the minds of people from economic problems. •

Mr. de Valera is anxious to take electoral advantage of his scheme for funding arrears of annuities, which is likely to impress farmers more than Mr. Cosgrave's argumant that the payments will be ultimately heavier. Mr. MacDermott, chairman of the Farmers' League, states that the Irish Land Commission is issuing 80,000 processes against Free State farmers for the nonpayment of annuities in May and June. " There is a limit," he added, " to the injustice of which a Government may be guilty, and also to the financial futility of plunging insolvents into deeper bankruptcy."
