STREET IMPROVEMENTS

ACQUISITION OF LAND

CITY COUNCIL TRANSACTIONS

The formal announcement of the transfer of a number of small pieces of land to the Auckland City Council for improvements to existing streets is recorded in the current Gazette. Under the Public Works Act the council is taking a strip 7ft. in depth from the frontages of a number of properties on the southern side of the portion of the New North Road known as Eden Terrace. This is following out the policy of the council in widening this street from 70ft. to 84ft. The alignment on either side has been set back 7ft. and as opportunity offers buildings are set to the new street line. Eventually the street will have the full width of 84ft. from Symonds Street to Dominion Road. By another proclamation under the Land Act an irregular strip of land about six chains long and with an average width of 12ft., is to be added to St. George's Bay Road to straighten the eastern alignment of the street above Cleveland Road. This transaction completes an agreement with the trustees of the Craig estate in connection with a subdivision arranged in 1929.
