THE LYCEUM CLUB

EVENING OF DRAMA

SCENES FROM "MACBETH"

Acting of a particularly high standard in both drama and comedy was a feature of the entertainment presented by the dramatic circle of the Lyceum Club to members and their friends in the club lounge last evening. The president of the club,, Sirs. W. H. Parkes, presided and extended a special welcome to Miss Jane Mander, the New Zealand authoress, who was a guest at the evening. Two scenes from " Macbeth " were presented in costume by Joan Craig as Lady Macbeth and Campbell Laurie as Macbeth. The first was the letter scene with tho return of Macbeth from battle and the contemplation of the murder of Duncan, and the second portrayed the murder itself. Both scenes were enacted with rare skill and the audience showed to the full its appreciation of this number.

A one-act comedy entitled " Two on a Bus," by Herbert Swears, was given by Estelle Verran and John Gordon, tho story containing an amusing memory test as a means of recovering a lost purse. This eternal triangle was the theme of the final presentation, " An Evening on Dartmoor," by Noel Munro. in which the parts were played by Lorna Leatham, Edna Craig, Keith Angus and Ron Bowie. Incidental music by Miss Ida Lockwood (violin) and Miss Kathleen 0 Leary (piano) was another very attractive feature of the evening's entertainment.
