WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

The Kamo, Parua Bay, Maromaku and Kiripaka Women's Institutes recently held their monthly meetings. At Kamo the second annual meeting was held and a demonstration of basket-making was given by Mrs. Young. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. A. T. Young; 'vice-president, Mrs. Andrews; committee, Mesdames Edge and Whiteman ; press correspondent, Mrs. McInnes; secretary, Mrs. Winefield.

At Parua Bay various thrifty ways of using old clothes were described by members. A cushion-cover competition was won by Mrs. Gladding, with Mrs. D. Ross second.

At Maromaku Mrs. Brydon gave an interesting demonstration of bead mat-mak-ing. At Kiripaka Mrs. A. Clarke, president of the Whareor Institute, gave an instructive address and also a demonstration of making roses from butter.

Coroinandel.—Mrs. Woodhouse, assisted by the Misses Nora Finan, Hutchison and A. Woodhouse, produced the amusing play " Top Dog." An interesting letter from an English link conveyed thanks for the gift of butter. Many members were now buying New Zealand butter. Henderson.—Mrs. Davidson, of New Lynn, interested members by demonstrating the making of pelmets and curtains. Mrs. Cranwell judged the competition for the best collection of roses.

Ngararatunua and Matarau Institute had a demonstration of icing a Christmas cake by Miss Chisholm.

Oroua-Pcria. —In addition to tho ordinary members of an institute committee, Oroua-Peria mado last year's president. Airs. Jacentho, patron.
