DEVONPORT COMPETITION

The kitchen garden competition conducted by the Devonport Welfare Association in the borough area attracted 25 entries, a number which greatly exceeded expectations. The majority of entrants were working people, .and one of the enthusiasts was a retired Government official, 87 years of age, whose hobby was gardening.

Tho awards, made by the judges, Mr.' 11. F. W. Meikle, Mayor of Devonport, and Mr. A. 11. Clist, are as follows: Messrs. Cox and Ludlow, 10 Wicklow Road, North Devonport, 1; Mr. Feter George, 9 Russell Street, Stanley Bay, 2. Consolation prizes were, awarded to Mr. A. Morgan, 17 Tainni Road; Mr. 11. Dumper, 13 Cambria Road; Mr. E. James, 23 Church Street; and Mr. U. Ilarley, 14 High Street.
