DUST FROM HIGHWAY

SPEED LIMIT PROPOSED

NO ACTION TO BE TAKEN

[from ora own correspondent] PUKEKOIIE. Moiulny

Tho proposal by the Franklin County Council to fix a speed limit of 30 miles an hour on tho Great South Road from Papakura southward in tho county area to minimise the dust nuisance, is not now being proceeded with.

Advico was received by the council today from the Auckland Automobile Association that the association was opposed to the proposal on principle. The communication added that tho council would appreciate this opposition if it had rogard for the huge amount of taxation that motorists had paid to secure better roads. Mr. J. Dean moved that the council take no further steps toward fixing a speed limit, and the motion was carried without further discussion.

The speed limit of 30 miles an hour on the Bombay deviation, fixed by the Main Highways Board, still stands.
