KING COUNTRY DRAINAGE
THE MANGAPU SCHEME
WORK NEAR TE KUITI
[from our own correspondent]
TE KUITI, Saturday
It was reported by the engineer, Sir. J. C. Simmonds, at a meeting of the Mangapu Drainage Board yesterday that the principal works carried out recently had been the hauling of willows and logs from the various streams and the poisoning of trees. A large proportion of this work had been carried out by men working under the No. 5 scheme, the board having been fortunate in augmenting the number of men, the maximum number on the roll being 42, and in obtaining a very considerable weekly allocation. The engineer stated that about three miles of the Mangaokewa Valley had been dealt with, and it was expected within another month or six weeks to have covered the whole of the Hangatiki-Te Kumi section.
