OBITUARY

MAJOR-GENERAL CATOR

FALLS DEAD OFF HORSE (Received November 20, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Nov. 39 Major-General A. B. E. Cator, General Officer commanding the London District, d : ed to-day in the hunting field in Wiltshire. He had a heart attack while he was galloping across a field and fell dead from his horse.

Deceased, who served throughout tho Great War, directed the attack by the London Territorial troops at Passchendaelo Ridge, 1916-17.

The lato Major-General Albemarle B. E. Cator, was an officer of the Scots Guards. He was born on April 12, 1877, and entered the army from the militia in 1897. He served in the South African War, 1899-1902. He was mentioned in despatches and won the Queen's inedal, six clasps, and the King's medal, two clasps. In the Great War ho was mentioned in despatches nine times, and won the D.5.0., the Mons Star, 1914, and Victory and .Allies' medals, as well as being admitted to the French Legion of Honour. From 1927 to 1931 he was commander of Luck now District, India.

MR. WESLEY L. JONES

AMERICAN PROHIBITIONIST

(Received November 20, 6.35 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 19 The death has occurred at Seattle of Mr. Wesley L. Jones, who represented Seattle (Washington) in the Senate. Ho was a Republican and a. staunch prohibitionist. He was' defeated at tho election on November 8.

The 'late Mr. W. L. Jones had been a member of the Senate since 1909. He was born in October, 1863. As a young man he studied for tho law, and was admitted to the bar in 1886 and began practice in 1890. He had lived in Seattle since 1917.
