EXPERIENCE OF WATCHMAN
CRIES FOR HELP HEARD
An escape from serious injury was experienced by Mr. John Anderson, aged 79, watchman on Mr. G. Niccol's motorvessel Atua. when he fell from the vessel into the harbour at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday.
Mr. Anderson was engaged in lighting a mooring lamp on the Atua, berthed at the Central Wharf, when he slipped and fell between the vessel and the wharf. Although he struck his head in falling and received severe cuts on the head, he was only slightly dazed and was able to call for assistance.
The injured man's cries were heard by Mr. W. Denham, a gatekeeper employed by the Auckland Harbour Board, and two other men. They lowered a rope, which Mr. Anderson was able to tie round lys waist.
Mr. Anderson," who lives at 61 Nelsoa Street, City, was attended by Dr. E. II Aubin. Ho later returned to his duties on the Atua^
