CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY

MR. D. 1.. JONES LEADING

The Auckland Chess Club's championship competition is approaching finality. Tlie present club champion. Mr. I>. I. Jones, is leading with 1G points, others in the final draw being: Mr. 11. N. Maddox, an exchampion, with 13 points; Mr. 11. D. Addis, 12 points; and Messrs. A. Pickett and J. F. Sullivan, Hi points each. Mr. Jones' aggregate of 10 can bo equalled by only one player, Mr. Maddox, and it cannot bo exceeded.

The prominent Australian exponent of the game, Mr. M. E\ Goldstein, of Sydney, will give a further exhibition of simultaneous chess in the Auckland Chess Club's rooms next Saturday evening, when ho will engage as many players as can be accommodated. A record number of boards is anticipated.

Preparations are well iti hand for the holding of the Dominion championship games in Auckland during the Christmas vacation, and a special committee has been set lip to carry out the detail work.
