ADJUSTMENT COMMISSION

Sir, —The criticism of tho personnel of the Adjustment Commission under tho Mortgagors and Tenants' Relief Act, which Mr. W. E. Parry, M.P , made a few days ago in tho House of Representatives, was both timely and necessary. The tenanttraders of this city know only too well that during recent years one member of this commission has assisted the city valuer in the Assessment Court in sustaining valuations —also, that he is a member of the Real Estate Institute, and that he is at least financially interested in Queen Street freehold shop property. Another member of this commission of three was strongly opposed to the proposals of the bill be'foro it found a place upon our Statute Book. How, then, can he be a suitable person to administer the Act? The third member of this commission is a retired bank manager with a long life of experience and education in banking, which cannot be entirely helpful in adjudicating these emergency measures. There is the danger of permitting the sanctity of contract to loom too large on the horizon. Tho exigencies of tho times—the dire extremity of tenant-traders seeking rental relief—aro in danger of being overlooked. 11. M. Wade.
