STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE

GENERAL INVESTMENTS WEAKER

An easier market for all general investments was in evidence on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Saturday morning, when the volume of business was above the average for a single call. In Government loans, 4j per cents were the only securities to receive substantial support. No supplies were available, but several higher interest-bearing issues which were quoted remained unsupported. Banks were easy, with little interest being shown by buyers. New Zealands were dealt in unaltered at 45s 7d, this transaction providing the only business in the section. A decline in levels was regislered for the principal insurance issues. New Zealands were released unaltered at 435, but further supplies quoted at 43s 6d were unsupported. South British were marked down 6d on sale at 56s and Nationals had easier inquiry at 14s 3d. In loan and agency the conspicuous movement was the withdrawal of the buyer of Loan and Mercantiles, whoso accounts were published that morning. On Friday these shares were sought at £45 and holders asked £57. The latter maintained their level but the market made no response. Auckland Gas, contributings, shaded 3d on sale at 15s.

The two leading Australian investments :in the miscellaneous division weakened on sale. Australian Glass wero released 7i,d cheaper at 40s, and British Tobaccos were parted with at 30s 9d, a fall of Is 9d. For Colonial Sugars, buyers returned to Cho market at tho previous day's sale price of £45, whereupon sellers raised their limits £2 to £4B.

The mining section was firm. Waihis continued to rally, advancing another 3d in a deal at 18s Bd, which was forthcoming for more. Holders asked 18s lOd. Waihi Junctions were also steady, making late rates in business at 3s 7d. Golden Dawns improved a penny on sale at 5s 3d. Alexanders continued to command firm support, but buyers of Blackwaters eased 6d to 19s 9d, with sellers steady at 21s 6d.
