DIED WHEN JUST 100
UNCONSCIOUS ON BIRTHDAY . Mr. Josiah Medcalf, of Enfield, Middlesex, who became ill following the excitement of preparations for his 100 th birthday celebrations a few weeks ago, died after a few hours. Ho was unconscious throughout the day. Mr. Medcalf, who was formerly goods manager for the then Great Northern Railway, was to have had a birthday reunion with retired railway officials, and a deputation from the Retired Railway Officers' Association was to call to congratulate him. The King and Queen sent a message to the secretary of the association stating they had intended sending congratulations to Mr. Medcalf had he been well enough to receive them and regretting to hear of his illness.
