NOTABLE LONDON PLAY

"The Barretts of Wimpole Street," which ran simultaneously in London and New York for over two years, and which taxed the capacity of the largest theatres in Sydney and Melbourne for several months, is now repeating; its success in New Zealand and will be presented for the first time in Auckland at His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday, November 12. Booking arrangements are advertised. J. C. Williamson, Limited, under whose direction this delightful romance is being presented, have spared neither pains nor expense to give Dominion theatre goers a replica of the London production. A complete English company, headed bv the famous English actress, Miss Margaret Rawlings, has been engaged, together with the full setting f,nd lighting effects, all under the personal supervision of the London producer, Mr. Gabriel Toyne. The play includes some delightful moments of comedy to contrast with the sterner drama of many of the scenes. And through it all runs this charm of Victorian speech. The story deals with the love of Robert Browning, poet and idealist, for the frail invalid, Elizabeth Barrett, whom he marries. They both have to contend with the haishness of the woman's sinister father.
