HOME-BREWED BEER
PROHIBITION TO MAORIS WHANGAREI DISTRICT BY-LAW [by telegram —special reporter] WELLINGTON, Friday Under the powers given by the Maori Councils Act to make by-laws for tho prevention of drunkenness, the Whangarei Maori 'Council, according t<s a Gazetto notice, has decided that no person shall brew or otherwise manufacture any beer or other intoxicating liquor within the district. The term beer includes ale and all other malt liquor or fermented beverages made in imitation of beer or malt liquor, and brewed in whole or in part .from any other substance than malt. No person will be permitted to supply to any 'Maori within the district any beer manufactured otherwise than by., a duly licensed brewer. The penalty for the breach of the by-law, which is immediately effective, is a fine up to £5. for the first offence, up to £lO for .the second offence and up to £ls for the third or subsequent offences.
