SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES EXODUS TO HIGH LAKDS ] MELBOURNE, Sept. 2 . Flood waters are pouring over the Hume weir on the Murray River, menacing the towns and farming districts. Already the water is 30in. above the crest of the spillway and is still rising. All the towns likely to bo affected have been warned and hundreds of dole campers along the river bank have moved. The Murrumbidgee Itiver at Wagga burst its banks. The Gunclagai district is also threatened, and the settlers are moving to higher ground. If the Murray River rises much more, •many townships will be in danger. A man was moving cattle when the flood waters surrounded him at Clear Springs. He climbed a tree, where he # was marooned ; for five hours before being rescued.
