DAFFODIL DAY

TO-DAY'S STREET APPEAL Daffodil Day will be> held in the city and suburbs to-day. This year it is being conducted by the Victoria League, the Society for the Protection of Women and Children and the Navy League combined, assistance being given by Boy Scouts and other organisations. About 300 helpers are taking part, there being 30 stalls distributed over a wide area, one being as far as Papakura. The appeal will be made between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. No money has been available this year for the purchase of flowers, the organisations relying solely *on the co-operation of friends who are able to provide this uecessity. Any further gifts of flowers or seedlings will be gratefully accepted. Daffodil Day was inaugurated in 1915. Since 1920 half of the proceeds have always been donated to charities working for the good of the young people, and as the finances of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children ar© now seriously impaired, it is hoped that the public will contribute genorously to the funds.
