BOXING

HUGHES' SOLID OPPONENT When Ted Oxley and Archie Hushes step into tho ring at tho Town Hall next Tuesday evening, boxing patrons will have the opportunity of watching what promises to be the best fight of the season. Oxley, who will be making his first appearance in the local ring, has built up a formidable amateur record and he has yet to be defeated as a professional. His last 19 fights have all resulted in; convincing wins, culminating in his sensational victory over Harry Johns, who was beaten on points after being twice saved by tho gong in the two final rounds. Oxley is hailed ip the south as a coming champion, and, although it is asking a big task of him to defeat the wellperformed Hughes, the opinion is held by those who have seen him fight that he'will give tho Australian a. very hard bout. Both men are finishing training in perfect condition, and. as the winner will meet Johns in a title bout, no opportunity of , winning the match will be allowed to pass. The amateur bouts which will support the main attraction are as follows:—Broadhead v. Fraser, J. McLachlan v. I. Hoijg, Kecnaa v. "W. Hogg, Aitkenhead ▼. Parsons.
