CANTEEN FUNDS

Sir, —Let me endorse all that "Interested" has said on this vital subject. No doubt tlie trustees did wisely in the past in conserving the funds —but now, when 20 years have passed and we are passing through tho worst depression tho world has ever known, the final division of funds is due, and there can be no question of its serving a great and lasting purpose. Let us then collect these moneys from every part of the Dominion, they will total well, get our figures together and disburse pensions to non-financial members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. There is nothing to wait for, their numbers cannot increase and their wants never become greater. Ken. Douglas.

Sir, —The canteen funds belong to the returned soldiers, and is part of our own money spent from the time we enlisted until we were discharged. I say we are all entitled to assistance if needed. There are men in Auckland to-day getting a little of the canteen funds, but what about the poor digger who is working in camp for 10s a'week? I may state that out of his earnings he has to pay for tobacco, matches, soap, etc. How can he he expected to buy clothes when he is tearing the rags he is wearing every day at work 1 ILvrd-up Digger.
