VETERANS' TOURNAMENT REDHEAD WINS THE CUP KEEN MATCH WITH. H. B. LUSK [BY TKLEGRAJ'H —OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday . The New Zealand veterans' golf tournament- was concluded to-day. C. H. Redhead (Rotorua) won the Veterans' Cup by defeating H. B. Lusk (Auckland) in the final, 1 up at the 19th. For the semi-final the weather was dull but fine with a perfect golfing light. However, the final in the afternoon was played in misty rain. Play was very even and full of incident. In the semi final of the championship Lusk benfc E. M. Hutchinson (Gisborno) on the 20th after a severe struggle, and Redhead beat R. Phelan (Tauranca) on the 19th. 1 Against Hutchinson Lusk gained a lead of two at tho third by superior golf, and was still 2 up at tho seventh, but Hutchinson squared tho match at the ninth. ' The 12th and 13th went to Hutchinson and the next two holes to Lusk. At the 18th Lusk found a bunker right in the fairway and, playing out, landed in a bunker near the green. Ho holed in 4. Hutchinson missed a 15-inch putt, which was all ho needed 1o win tho match. Tho 19th was halved on the handicap and Lijsk won the 20th. Phelan against Redhead won the first two holes, but Redhead won the fifth and seventh, squaring the game, and Phelan was one down at the turn. The 10th hole went to Redhead, the 11th and 13th to Phelan. All square again. Redhead won the 15th in 2 to 3. and Phelan evened at the lftth. Tho nest, two were halved and Redhead won the innteh on the 19th in 4 to 5. Rain fell from the start of tho final. Lusk, who was conceding Redhead 11 strokes, held" the advantage from the tee. Redhead's driving being short, but straight, but the first hole went to Redhead. With a win in sight for Lusk a stymie on the Hp ot the second robbed him of a chance. At the fourth a magnificent second by Redhead within a few feet of the pin gave him tho hole. Redhead failed to cross the burn at the fifth and arrived on the green in 5. Lusk failed to sink an "eagle" 3 by inches. Redhead 1 up. Redhead increased his lead to 2. . After both were on the green at the ninth off the tee poor putting halved the hole in fours. On the 10th Lu§k had every advantage to the green, but Redhead with a stymie and a strode managed to halve the hole. Redhead lost the 12th. where he took two shots and, failing to get out of a bunker, picked up. Redhead 1 up. Lusk squared the match on the 14th and became 1 up for the first time at the 15th in 3to 4. , , At the 16th Redhead's second, going hard and wide, struck an obstacle and bounded at right angles on to the green. Lusk. pitching a perfect ehot to tho green, was in no beitter position, the holo going to Redhead. All square. The 17th was halved in 3. "With a stroke at the 18th Lußk with a classic iron lay on the green, his putt resting on the lip of the hole, but he could only get a half. . Going to tho 19th Lusk had again to concede a stroke. Needing a "birdie" to win he lay six inches from the pin. His opponent eank a six-foot putt to win the cup.
