SYDNEY STOCK EXCHANGE YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS (Keceived September 1. 8.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 1 The Sydney Stock Exchange is moving in close sympathy with wool values, and the general reduction in production costs. The investment market to-day continued most active, resulting in a fresh series of gains on favoured stocks. Many leading industrials had a distinctly firmer trend and banks and Barriers went further ahead. Bonds also displayed an upward movement. This morning's sales were:—Commonwealth 4 per cent bonds, 1938, £O9 17s 6d; 1950, £97 15s: 1955. £9B 15s; 1959, £93 12* 6d; IS6I, £99 ss. GOLD AND SILVER QUOTATIONS IN LONDON (Received September 1, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 31 Gold is quoted to-day at £5 18s lOd an oz., compared with £5 18s 8d yesterday. Silver is quoted at 18 7-16 d an oz. spot and 18J,d forward, compared with 18 9-16 d and 18 11-16 d yesterday. The quotation for silver at per standard oz. is 18 7-16 d and at per fino oz. 19 7-Bd, compar ed with 18 9-lfid and 20d dayAUSTRALIAN PRODUCE STEADY TONE FOR WHEAT (Received September 1, 7.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 1 Following were to-day's conditions and quotations on the Sydney produco market: Wheat: Although business is quiet a steady tone ruled in the local wheat trade. Silo lots were offered at 3s a bushel, but buyers indicated 3s 5d as their limit and no business was reported. Bagged wheat, nominal, 3s 6£d. Farmers were reported to bo selling steadily at sidings at 2s 9d, equal to 3s 4d ex trucks Sydney. Flour, £lO 10s. Bran and pollard, £5 10s. Potatoes: Tasmanian, £7; Victorian, £5. Onions: American, £3O; Japanese, £27. Oaten hay, £7. Maize: Yellow, 5s 4d; white, 4s Bd. Adelaide prices to-day were:—Wheat: Growers' lots, 3s to 3s 3d. Flour; Bakers' lots, £7 10s. Bran, £5 2s 6d Pollard, £5 12s 6d. Oats, Is Bd. LONDON TALLOW SALES LONDON, Aug. 31 At the London tallow sales to-day 707 casks were offered and 337 were sold at 6d advance. Quotations are:—Mutton, fine, 23s 6d per cwt.; medium, 20s 6d; beef, fine, 24s 6d; medium, 20s 6d. TIN IN NEW YORK NEW YORK. Aug. 31 Tin (standard), September delivery, is quoted at 23.05 cents a lb., compared with 23.75 cents (August delivery) on August 29.
