DEATH OF MAORI CHILD

COMMENT BY CORONER [iiy telegraph—own correspondent] BUSSELL. Thursday " Cases of this nature are too prevalent in (lie North and I must again adviso the Maoris to obtain the services of a doctor or the district nurse in the case of illness," said the district coroner, Mr. T. J. V. Dunlop, yesterday at the inquest at, Opahi into the death of tho infant daughter of Hare Tutawahi Paewhenna, of Pokere. Tho father in evidence said that about a month ago the child developed a colcl and his wife gave her olivo oil. She seemed to improve, but on Monday morning became worse. Witness had intended sending for the district nurse, but his daughter who was seven months old, died on Tuesday before he had done so. Witness said he lived five miles in tho bush, away from a telephone. Dr. G. J. Frengley, medical superintendent of tho Kawakawa Hospital, said that death was duo to bronchitis, with other complications. A verdict was returned in accordance with tho medical evidenco.
