NEWMARKET PERFORMANCE ALL" PROCEEDS TO CHARITY All the proceeds of Inst Sunday evening's entertainment at the Rialto Theatre were handed over by the proprietors, Amalgamated Theatres, Limited, to the Newmarket Borough Council for the relief of distress, according to a statement made yesterday by the town clerk, Mr. H. Wilson. "We feel very keenly in this matter of Sunday pictures," said Mr. Wilson, who criticised the attitude of the police. He said the Act gave authority to local bodies to grant permission for picture or concert performances where the funds are used for charitable purposes. The money was utilised for the distribution of ration tickets to applicants for meat, groceries and coal. Sometimes it was used to provide clothing for children at the Auckland Hospital.
