AMENDMENT OF RATES

INCREASE FOUND NECESSARY REQUIREMENT AT OTAHUHU The unusual procedure of having to amend its proposed rates for the current year had to be adopted by the Otahuhu Borough Council last evening. At the last meeting the town clerk reported that the new valuation roll had been received, and the council decided to strike a rate of 9£d in the pound on the unimproved value of the borough. Tho town clerk, Mr. R. W. F. Wood, reported last evening that he had been advised by the Valuation Department that the figure previously supplied had included the properties actually owned by the Borough Council, valued at £11,205. As these properties could not be included in the total valuation for rating purposes, tho reduced valuation on the proposed rate of 9jd would yield £443 less in rates than was estimated. The Finance Committee had considered the position, and had decided to recommend that the rate for this year be 9 11-16 d in the pound. This was tho same rate as last year, and on the new valuation would yield £75 less than the estimates.

It was decided to strike the rate at the amended amount.
