POPULAR ROYAL CHEF.
RETIREMENT POSTPONED.
REQUEST MADE BY KING
LONDON, July 5,
The King Jias persuaded Gabriel Tschumi, second chef at Buckingham Palace, whose retirement was announced and who was a general favourite under the nickname "Chummy," to retain hi> post until the autumn. He will return to duty during his retirement for special functions and also accompany the King during his visits to Cowes.
Tschumi has a magical culinary touch. He is an excellent organiser, whether for a palace banquet or picnic lunch. Hia father, a Swiss professor, was killed when "Chummy" was 15. His cousin, a dresser to Queen Victoria, procured him a kitchen apprenticeship. He was the last appren-. tice ever bound to Royal chefs. Queen Alexandra specially liked him. He treasures many Royal gifts and has met numerous distinguished visitors to the Royal Family from everywhere in the world. He keeps his recipes secret. " :
