RECORD BROWN TROUT.
WEIGHT OF 25 POUNDS. FOUND ON BANK OF TONGARIRO. [RY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA. Tuesday. A great, deal of interest was caused this morning among local and visiting anglers when it was learned that, Mr. A. Kean, conservator of fisheries and game, had received a splendid specimen of a brown trout, from Mr. B. T T . Barlow, of Motrinsville, who is camped at the hatchery sito on the Tongariro River. The fish is a female and weighs 2.->lb. It is 3oAin. lone, with a. girth of 22in. As far as is known the fish was p'.ekfd up by Mr. Barlow on tho banks of the Tongariro River, after a small flood. It was in excellent, condition and could not long have been out of the water. Its condition factor registers 67 out of a possible 70 on the chart, whii h is much above normal.
Mr. Barlow, who is an ardent, angler and sportsman, has been camped on tho Tongariro since the commencement of the season and is well known among anglers in that vicinity. The conservator considers it. the heaviest trout that has come to h:s notice during Iho 25 years of his experience in fishing matters in the Roturua district, and it is certainly the heaviest that, has over been authentically recorded. The fish is to bo preserved and placed on exhibition in Rotorua. !t wn s on view at, Mr. Kean's office, this morning and was inspected by ft large number of anglers and others..
