WHANGAREI.
The Whangarei Lawn Tennis -Club's 14 eourts were fully occupied by tlie North [Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's annual tournament, which commenced on Good Friday. The day was a beautiful one, and in the afternoon there was a good attendance of visitors, who enjoyed fully the good tennis provided. Among those present were:—Mrs. F. Higginson, Mrs. Spencer Day, Mrs. Clayton '1 home, Mrs. J. G. Campbell., Mrs. G. H. Morrish, Mrs. Burke (Ngaruawahia), Mrs. J. W. Hall, Mrs. F. Pope (Wellington), Mrs. H. Crane, Mrs. V. Wise, Mrs. 1). McLeod, Mrs. M. Matheson, Mrs. L. T. Pickmere, Mrs. J. Gellert, Mrs. H. Keeble, Miss V. Campbell, Miss F. Mac-' kav, Miss G. Matheson, Miss E. Higginson, Miss E. Simons, Miss A. Higginson, Miss B. Wilson, Miss D. Sterling, Miss ,V. Kelly. Hospital Concert. Madame Brainsby and her concert party paid a visit to the patients of t lie Whangarei Public Hospital on Thursday evening. In the party were Airs. Dobson, Mr. H. Carruth, Mr. Ivan Perrin and his Adelphians (including Mr. Jack Davey, soloist). Songs, instrumental iten.is and capital stories told in happy vein filled an entertaining and enjoyable evening. The party was conveyed to end from the hospital by Miss Drummond and Mr. Lester Sinclair. Farewell to Matron. The boarders at the Girls' House of the Whangarei District High School entertained Miss E. A. Giblin at high lea prior to her departure from Whangarei, •where she has occupied the position of matron. After tea Mr. A. R. Ryder, principal of the school, presented the t>adges of three prefects for the year. Later Miss Margaret Newman, senior prefect, presenled Miss Giblin with a fitted picnic case, and expressed the gratitude tlio girls, past and present, felt for lier kind attention to them and their regret that she was leaving the. school. Mr. Ryder added his regret, and (he function closed with the singing of " For She s a .lolly Good Fellow " and hearty cheers. Tennis Dance. 'I he Blue Dragon Cabaret, Whangarei, was the scene on Saturday night, of the annual dance of thn North' Auckland Tennis .Association, held in conjunct inn with the annual tennis tournament which commenced un Good Friday.
