SPORT OF CYCLING.

HEW ZEALAND TITLE-HOLDER. The evele championship events decided at the Auckland Domain grass track last Saturday on the occasion of the 41st Tiual Dominion Cciinna were dominated by one of the Caiitci >ui\ representatives. F. J. Grose Grose s ex n bition of combined speed and judgmeu was easily the best that has been wi._ Tiessed on the Domain since the* visit of the Victorian wheelman, R- W. Lamb, in 1927. Grose won all three titles, the Tnilc. One mile and three miles, in haul, fighting finishes against other ridcis of no mean reputation." His electric jump, when he simply hurled his machine foiward in a flash at the close of the 1 hioc miles, was the most brilliant spectacle of the afternoon's cycling, and it allowc< him to snatch a last moment victory by inches from T. O'Brien, another Canterbury rider, who won all three titles last season at Dunedin on a wet and heavy £rack. Grose also enjoyed the distinction, along with P. Milino. the field event atlilot p from Wolliiijit on. of winning the greatest number of championship points at the meeting, namely. 15. Grose has been prominent in wheel Sport in the Dominion for the past seven seasons. His first Dominion title was gained in 1926, when he won the thrce miles in 7m 23. 2-5s at Dunedin. In 1927, Aurklnwl. ho won tho hull mile title when he finished second to the Victorian. Lamb, who was not eligible for the title, hi the next event, tlie mile, lie fell heavily and was unable to further compete. At the 1928 meeting.he collected all three titles when thev were decided on his home track. At the 1929 carnival at Wellington he failed to obtain a placing, hut at Wanganui in the 1930 season he again won ail three events. At the lattei carnival he reeled off a mile in 2in 7 3-ss, the fastest championship mile recorded. No doubt Grose acquired useful knowledge of the Domain grass track during his six weeks of competition upon it prior to Inst Saturday. To have won 11 titles Qver a period of seven seasons must stamp Grose as the finest amateur wheelman the Dominion lias produced. His successes have not been confined solely to track *6rk, for he has figured brilliantly on the load
