TROUT-FISHING SEASON.
ACTIVITIES RESTRICTED. ROTORUA DISTRICT REPORT. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Monday. Some good catches of trout have been reported to Mr. A. Kean, conservator, during the past fortnight. The fish taken have been in good condition. The fortnightly report for the Rotorua district states that strong and at times gale >orce winds prevailed for most of the period, and had the effect of limiting fishing to only sheltered localities. In thp Whakatane-Opotiki district the fish taken from the various rivers are reported to be in good to very good condition. The heaviest fish taken from the district for some time weighed 141b. 9ioz., and was caught on the fly in the Whakatane River.
The reports of the Waikato River fishing are only meagre, as very little fishing was done there during the period. Some good results were obtained on Lake Rerewhakaitu during the period, notably 45 fish in good condition taken during a week-end by three Rotorua anglers. The weight and condition of the Lake Rotoiti fish remain good, and conditions are further improved by the run of fish now taking place in the channel. Major Oliver, who lives near Lake Rotoehu, speaks well of his regular fishing excursions on this lake. The fish in. Lake Rotoma are reported to be in good condition. Windy weather curtailed the activities of anglers for most of the period on Lake Rotorua.
