ELECTION OF OFFICERS. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS. The opinion that economy could he effected in the matter of the continued payment of certain fees to the New Zealand Law Society was expressd at the annual meeting of the Auckland District Law Society last evening. Action was left to the incoming council. It was also felt that with regard to annual practising fees and contributions to the fidelity guarantee fund, payments might be spread over a longer peiiod, oi divided so that practitioners would not have to meet them at tho commencement of the

year The, president, Mr. R. P. Towle, announced that two Hugh Campbell scholarships, valued at £SO and £3O respectively, had been awarded to Messrs. \V. Mil liken and Fitzpa trick, who were at present taking their honours course in law at the Auckland University College. Reference to the retirement from the council of Messrs. 11. Mc\ eagh, I). L. G. West and J. H. Reyburn, was made hy the president, who recalled that Mr. McVeagh had served the council with hardly a break for nearly 25 years, while Mr. West had been on the council for 11 years and Mr. Reyburn for eight years. A vote of appreciation and thanks was recorded to the retiring president, and to Messrs. McYeagh, West and Reyburn. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. A. Goulding; vicepresident, Mr. G. P. Finlay; treasurer. Mr. L K. Munroj council, Messrs. W. H. Cocker, A. H. Johnstone, J. B. Johnston, V. R. Meredith, T. A. H. Olipliant and It. P. Towle; auditor, Mr. W. A. Duthic. Messrs. Goulding, Johnstone and Towle were olected delegates to the New Zealand Law Society, and Messrs. McVeagh and 11. P. Richmond, delegates to the council of law reporting.
