RACEHORSES SOLD.

KAKArOTI AND HEKEMIA PURCHASE FOR OVERSEAS. EOTH FOUR-FIGURE PRICES. LEAVING AUCKLAND SOON. Negotiations were yesterday completed by an overseas buyer for the purchase of ' the racehorses Karapoti and Heremia. The horses are to do no further racing in New Zealand, and at an early date they will be shipped to Sydney en route to their new owner. As a result of the sale Heremia lias already left J. L. Gray's stable at Takanini and is temporarily under the care of N. Cunningham at Ellerslie, whero lie will be joined to-day' by Karapoti, who has been trained by A. Cook at Te Awamutu. It was intended to send Karapoti to Trentham to compete at the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting this week and space had been booked for him to make the trip shortly before the sale was completed yesterday. « Karapoti and Heremia are both wellknown performers, and it is to b 0 regretted that two such good horses are leaving New Zealand. The prices at ■ which the horses changed hands have not been announced, but it is understood that they are substantial, and that each one runs into four figures. Karapoti was the leading three-year-old in New Zealand last season, his victories including the Great Northern Guineas, the King's Plate, the Great Northern Derby, the North Island Challenge Stakes and the Great Northern St. Leger. This season he has won only two races, the Flying Handicap at Waipa and the Newmarket Handicap at Ellerslie. Karapoti was bred by Mr. M. H. Tims, of Te Awamutu, and lias done all his racing in that sportsman's colours. Mr. Tims bought Kilbeggan, the dam of Karapoti, for 22 guineas with the object ' of -breeding a worthy successor to his good stayer Te Kara, who besides deadheating in one Auckland Cup won another outright, and was also successful in Australia, winning both at Ranchvick and at Brisbane. Kilbeggan was subsequently mated with General Latour, sire of Te Kara, and produced Karapoti.' Heremia has not achieved the same success as Karapoti, but has shown decided promise, running third in the Great Northern Derby and winning the Potiro Cup at, Trentham. He is by the imported horse Lapidary, by Black Jester, from Blodwyn. As a four-year-old next season Heremia should develop into a good handicap horse, as he has already shown ability to run middle distances solidly. He was owned by Mr. Cecil A. Boles, of Taumarunui. RESULTS AT CROMWELL. INCREASE IN INVESTMENTS. The Cromwell Jockey Club's annual meeting, held last Friday and Saturday, proved very successful, a feature being the larger totalisator investments, which amounted to £4OBI for the two days, compared with J03433 10s last year, an increase of £647 10s. In the Lowburn Hack Handicap on the first day, the favourite, Segrave, was fractious it the start and finally got rid of his rider and bolted, the field being sent away without him. After the race an inquiry was e • held concerning the running of the winner, 1 Travlavah, owned by Mr. J. M. Samson, t compared with his showing earlier in the c day, when he had run unplaced. The ex- f planation tendered was accepted. Results:— i FIRST DAY. *
