STORM AT THE ISLANDS.

NO REPORT OF DAMAGE. A severe cyclone was experienced in the Tongan Group on Saturday, according to wireless advice received on Sunday by the Union Company's Island sleamer Tofua, which reached Auckland from Suva yesterday. The news was received from Nukualofa and stated '.that the cyclone passed approximately 50 miles to the north of Vavau, which is 170 miles from Nukualofa. The cyclone was travelling in a south-easterly direction and during the early part of the storm the wind was cast-south-east and the barometer registered 28.35 in. Afterwards the wind changed to the west-south-west and the barometer fell to 28.22 in. The wind during the storm was force 10 (Beaufort scale), force 12 being hurricane force. The advice did not statf whether any damage had been done.
