FIERCE EAGLE HAWK.
ATTACKS ON CATTLE. VALUABLE CALF BLINDED. Mr. F,. D. Cox, of Terragon, New South Wales, was mystified recently to notice severe scratchsngs on the back of a cow brought in from one of the paddocks on his farm. Later he noticed another beast with similar scratches on its back. Then Mr. Cox's attention was attracted by the frantic bellowing of a young calf, which, he found, was being attacked by a huge eagle hawk, which swooped down upon it repeatedly as it careered madly around the paddock, and which appeared to be trying to lift it from its feet. The eagle flew away when Mr. Cox ap-' proached. Ihe eyes of tho calf, a valuable heifer, had been so badly injured that it was found necessary to destroy it. Eagles have frequented the locality for many years, but they have not been known-to attack cattle before.
