DEEP-SEA FISHING.
CATCHES AT MAYOR ISLAND. OVER 30 SWORDFISH IN MONTH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAUBANGA, Monday. Fishing from the launch Valencia yesterday off Mayor Island, Mr. J. Brice, of Waharoa, landed a striped Marlin lift. Bin. long. Three other launches in the locality were each playing swordfish at the same time. So far this month, over 30 swordfish have been landed at Mayor Island. MERCURY BAY CAPTURE.
FIRST SWORDFISH OF SEASON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHITIANGA, Monday. The first swordfish this season was caught yesterday after a struggle lasting one hour and 20 minutes, by Mr. Thomas G. Reynolds, of Hamilton, from the launch Samson. Its weight was 2451b. MAKO SHARKS AT CAPE BRETT. NAVAL OFFICER'S SUCCESS. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] Russell, Monday. While fishing off Cape Brett from the Launch Lorna Doone, Lieutenant-Com-mander P. A. Berry, of the Philomel, caught three Mako sharks weighing 1931b., 1621b. and 1311b. respectively. Each gave good sport for its size.
