SEQUEL TO A FIRE.
CYCLE DEALER'S ARREST. REMAND FOR WEEK GRANTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Monday. A pba of not guilty was entered by Wool soy Gordon Alien, of Whangnrei, motor-cycle dealer, when charged in tho Magistrate's Court this morning before Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., that on March 13, at Whangarei, ho did wilfully set firo to benzine and motor-cycles so situatod as to be likely to cause tho building at No. IP, Water Street, Whangarei, to catch i.;re.
Doti'i tivo-Sergeant Roberton applied for a remand until March 21, and stated that accusijfi had boon arrested on Sunday mornin,; at 4 o'clock. If proved tho caso vi.s a serious one, said the detective, and he asked that substantial bail bo forthcoming. Counsel said tho damage done had been small ; nd there was a reasonable explanation.
'l'llfi remand was granted and bail was fixed at self £250, and two sureties of £125 oach.
