STOCKS AND SHARES.
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. A WEAKENING TENDENCY. A market] casing tendency was apparent on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and only seven sales took place. Buyers were not prominent in the Government securities section, there being only two inquiries. These were £9l for War Bonds, 1939, 4A per cent., and a similar amount for Inscribed Stock, 1938, per cent. Holders, however, would not reduce beyond £93 5s and £93 for bonds and stock respectively. Generally, late quotations were maintained in banks, although some weakness was apparent. Commercial Bank of Australia (preference) sold at £6 2s 6d, a decreaso of 4s on the provious salo. New Zcalands changed hands at 42s 4d, a fall of 2d. There were no other sales in this section. New South Wales were freely sought at £24 15s, but holders declined to go lower than £25. In insurance there was a moderate firming tendency, but no sales resulted, holders and buyers both advancing their quotations. Holders of Now Zcalands asked 37s 6d, which was Is 6d higher than buyers offered, while for South British buyers offered 49s 6d, sellers 50s 6d. Auckland Gas sold l£d cheaper at 21s 9d. Quotations advanced for bol.li Colonial Sugars and New Zealand Breweries, but no sales were recorded. Woolworths' preference rights changed hands at 3s 6d. There was a fair demand for mining on a slightly higher level and three sales took place. Waihis were firm at 16s, Consolidated Goldfields increased 2d to 2s Id, and Mahakipawas improved from 3d to 4gd.
