WAIPU MEDICAL CLUB.
FINANCES NOT SATISFACTORY BOARD GRANTS ASSISTANCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Monday. A deputation from the Waipu Medical Club waited upon tho Whangarei Hospital Board to-day to request assistance. Mr. G. McLean, chairman of tho club, said the club had decided to wind up its affairs owing to the unsatisfactory state of its finances. However, the legal position was that members must, be levied for their subscriptions to the end of July and the club was therefore bound to supply medical services. ' Tho deputation asked the board to assist the club until July 31. At present, said Mr. McLean, the club owed the boarcl £163, and it hoped to receive £9O in subscriptions. It had £IBO in book debts, most of which it hoped to collect.
Mr. A. J. McKay, board member for Waipu, said tho club committee was prepared to stick together until its debt to tho board was liquidated.
The chairman of the board, Mr. J. N. McCarroll, said that the liability of the club to the board had been reduced by £IOO during the last year. Mr. W. Jones said he thought the club would be in a better position to meet its liabilities at a later date, and he proposed that tho board supply the services of a doctor until July 31. This was carried.
Dr. H. Greenwood, of Waipu, who was doctor to the Medical Club, was appointed to the position, tho salary being at tho rate of £3OO per annum.
