NORTHERN ROADS.
IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE. DETOUR ROUTES NECESSARY. INFLUENCE OF WEATHER. The sealing of portions of tho recently reconstructed highway between Pulioi and Maungaturoto has been found to be necessary to preserve the surface, and to minimise maintenance costs. Contracts which were authorised some time ago included tho surfacing of the Te HanaTopuni and Puhoi-Warkworth sections of tho highway. Work is expected to commence very shortly, and as far as possible traffic will bo allowed to use the side of the present roadway. There are places, however, where detours will be necessary, and between Topuni and To Hana there will bo times when traffic will be required to use the To Arai-Mangawai.Road. This will be only during tho day time and in fine weather. The detour route includes a section of clay and should rain fall, making the surface wet and greasy, the main road will be kept open. On tho Puhoi-Warkworth section, every endeavour is being made to keep traffic as much as possible on the main road, but there will be times when it will be necessary for motor traffic to travel via Puhoi, Ahuroa and Woodcocks. The Auckland Automobile Association will cooperate with the Main Highways Board's representative and the detour routes will be adequately signposted, and in tho event of the highway being closed, uniformed patrols will be on duty. It is not anticipated that the proposed work will extend over a very long period and it will be only for limited times that any detours will bo necessary.
