DOG AND SNAKE FIGHT.
VICTORY AND DEFEATJ BOTH COMBATANTS DIE. A fox terrier and a 6ft. black snake fought for ten minutes in the middle of Stanley Street, Peakhurst, near Sydney, recently. The snake won and the dog died, but not until he had brought h:s master back to the scene of the battle and coaxed the snake from a log for it to be killed.
The dog, which was owned by Mr. J. 15. Wilkinson, was attacked by tile snake, which fastened its fangs iritc his right ear. The terrier sank his teoth info the reptile, and they rolled into the roadway, where the dog was bitten on the other ear. They fought in the dust for several minutes, when the snake wriggled into the bush, pursued by the dog. -Ji. Mr. Wilkinson then arrived and took his pet hwme to treat its wounds. As it showed no ill-effecls, lie took it hack to the bush where the snake had vanished. The dog was weakening now, but led his master to the spot and clawed at the ground. , ... The snake came out, to be speedily killed, while the terrier,, his .job dona, rolled over and died. Mr. Wilkinson had been unable to find any punctures, but a veterinary surgeon found that the dog hac! also been bitten under the neck. | ■
