At an early hour yesterday morning, » youth who was cycling, John Johnston, was struck by a service car travelling from Dunedin to Totara.

Communication by telephone with Oamaru was opened with difficulty, owing to the lateness of the hour, ar.d after a delay a doctor and an ambulance left for the scene. Johnston was found to bo suffering from fractures of the leg* and other injuries. His condition is grave.
