TENNIS CLUB'S FETE.
BIRKENHEAD AND NORTHCOTE A very successful feto was held on Saturday afternoon at tho Birkenhead and Northcote Tennis Club's grounds in Litt lo Shoal Bay Reserve. Tho pavilion was tastefully decorated, and the picturesque surroundings of native bush and harbour views were greatly enjoyed. Tho Birkenhead Borough Band played a musical programme. Considerable interest was Attracted by tho exhibition tennis match between two former New Zealand champions, Messrs. A. C. Stedrnan (singles) and N. (_!. Sfurt (doubles), and tho really good display witnessed was greatly appreciated. The fancy dances by fho pupils of Madame E. Baird were much admired. 1 lie shepherd was taken by Miss Lesley Crano and tho nymph by Miss Betty Young in the. "Arcadian Idyll;" and Miss Nora OTlalloran was tho central lady in " La Coquette Rouge," performed by Misses Barbara Steven, Florence Taylor, Jovco Adams and Thelma. Arnold. 1 he tambourine dance was pleasingly executed by Miss Betty Young and Lesley C'ane, tho former also giving a soio scarfe dance. Other numbers wero lilts for three and eight, and "Tho Skipping I< rieze." All tho pupils, including Misses Margaret Copscy, Celia Park, Ailra Steven, Phyllis Park and Irene Eyre, took part in tho circular lilt, and also in the concluding item. " Flowers all the Way." Numerous races and other events for tho children wero held. The competition for tho iced cake was won by Miss I\. Williamson.
Hie awards of Madame Baird in the babv show were:—Under lo months: Gordon Chinnery, 14 months, 1; under nine months: Anthony Adams, seven months, 1. 'lhe stall-holders were:—Afternoon tea, Mesdames J. It. Gray and A- Aspden, -Misses M. Newman, 1). Wrightson, V. Jones, Ij. Edwards and M. Healey; Sweets, blisses E. Hancock, G. Cook and N. Tver; jumble, Mesdames 11. W. Tver and IT. Weaver, Misses M. Tver and M. Lockie; produce, Mr. A. F. Sharpe and Miss T). fjbnrpe. In the evening an enjoyable dance was field in the Northcot o Parish Hall under the auspices of the Birkenhead and Nortbcote Tennis Club, the function being largely attended.
