ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY.

St. Anrlrow's Society held a social in the Concert Chamber on Saturday. The president, Mr. J. JJowie, presided. The St„ Andrew's Quartette (Misses L. Woods, and P. Gribbcn and Messrs. A. Colledge and IT. M. Eisher) sang " My Ain Folk" and " A Regular Royal Queen" and also appeared in solos. A delightful elocutionary item, " The Cuddle Doon Series," by Alexander Anderson received its first public, performance in Auckland by Mrs. Culford Bell. The rjuartotto ably assisted with musical effects. Mr. J. W. Shaw, M.A., delivered a short address on Burns, in which ho traced the. influence of the poel, on Scottish literal lire. Mrs. J. JJowio acted as accompaniste. Supper and dancing concluded a very enjoyable evening, Pipe-major Ferguson officiating for the Highland dancing and Bolton's orchestra supplying the othor music.
