POSTPONING ORDINARY SESSION
There will be general approval of the. suggestion that; this year's ordinary session of Parliament should be postponed. The present emergency session will probably extend into May, by which time, if reasonable expedition is employed, the necessary financial measures should bo passed. Immediately after the closing of the session the Prime Minister and his associate will have to leave for the Ottawa Conference, but it. is not on the ground of the absence of the Leader of the Government that the case for postponement rests. Apart from the important consideration of reducing as far as possible the cost of Parliament, this is not a year for ordinary legislative work. The present session should give opportunity for all the essential economic and financial measures and, these passed, no good purpose would be sfsrved by summoning Parliament, within a few weeks. Indeed, the holding of the session would definitely hamper Ministerial administration. The main task of the winter will bo that of dealing with unemployment, and it, will be generally conceded that. Parliamentary debate will in no way bo helpful. Ways and means having secured the rest is purely administrative, and the less talk there is the more real work will be. accomplished.
