FIRE BRIGADE CONTESTS.
RESULTS AT ELLERSLIE. Considerable public interest was taken in a tournament held by the lillerslie Fire Brigade at the Ellerslie Domain on Saturday afternoon. Two events, involving the use of hydrants and taking out leads of hose, were decided. The judge was the captain of the brigade. Mr. A. Vause, the timekeeper, Mr. J. Carter, and tho starter Mr. R. Taylor. The results were ns follows:—Disabled contest, wet, for pairs: G. Kelly and C. Taylor, 1: A. Taylor and G. Bevin, 2. Dry coupling contest: G. Bevin, 1; G. Kelly, 2; C. Taylor, 3. ANNUAL DEMONSTRATION. SOUTH AUCKLAND BRIGADES. [FROM oru OWN COK R KSPO N PENT."| OTOROHANGA, Saturday. The annual demonstration of the South Auckland fire- brigades, for the Howden and Ilill-Mnloney Shields, was held at Otorohanga to-day in brilliant weather. There was a good attendance of spectators. and 10 brigades participated. Taumarunui won both shields in its first appearance ut this demonstration, and was also fairly successful in the events for B teams. Mr. T. Watta. secretary and travelling advisory superintendent to the United Fire Brigades' Association of New Zealand, said the organisation anil work of the brigades competing was of an excellent standard. He was very pleased at the manner in which tho work had been conducted and would report upon it to his association. The team work in the first two events had been particularly fine. Following were the results: —A teams, twomen event, luisc and standpipe: Tntimnl'unui, 35 2-ss, 1; Otorohanga, 33 2-ss, 2; Cambridge. 38 4-ss. 3. Ten teams competed. Three men. hose and standpipe, draw for places: Otorohanga. 28s. 1; Taumarunui, 27 2-ss, Is penalty, 2? 2 sb. 2- Cambridge. 28 3-ss, 3. Ten teams competed. Four men, disabled hose: Cambridge, 4G 3 53. 1; Taumarunui. 525, 2; To Aroha, 535. 3. Ten teams competed. These three events completed the Howden Shield competition, for which points gained were as follows: —Taumarunui. 301 points; Cambridge, 29; Otorohanga, 20; Te Aroha, 13}: Te Kuiti, 111. Waihi, 11; Te Awamutu, C; Ngaruawahia. 31. Three men, disabled hose: Otorohanga, 50 4-ss, 1; Te Kuiti, 51 3-ss. 2;:Waihi, 525, 3. Ten teams competed. This event completed the award for the ITill-Maloney Shield,' which was. won by Taumarunui, points of the three leading teams being:— Taumarunui, 311; Otorohanga, 32; Cambridge, 20. B Teams.—Two-men. hose and standpipo: Taumarunui, 39 2-ss. I: Otorohanga. 39s (Is penalty). 40s. 2; Waihi, 455. 3. Threemen draw: Olorohanga, 30s, 1; Te Kuiti, 32 l-ss, 2; Taumarunui, 345, 3. Four teams competed. Three-men, disabled hose: Otorohanga, 545, 1: Waihi, 54 2-5s (1b penalty), 55 2-ss, 0; Taumarunui, 58s, 8. Four teams competed.
