GALLOPS AT HICCARTON. WELLINGTON CANDIDATES. CRICKET BAT'S GOOD SEVEN. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CIJKISTCHURCH, Saturday. Conditions were very favourable for training operations at Iticcarton to-day. Some interesting gallops in view of the forthcoming meetings at Trentham, Waimule nncl West port were executed on the outside of the course proper and on the plough,, both tracks providing fast going. On the plough Jaloux and i'acify cantered to the five furlongs post arid then ran home at a strong pace. Both appear to be in healthy condition. Winsome Hind once more showed her track ability by reeling of! seven furlongs in 1.28 li-5, the first half in 50s, and a reproduction of this efTort at Trentham would bring her success. J\i r I and Kakara comfortably covered seven furlongs in 1.30, finishing together. Meprisarit and Muff were allotted a similar task. They ran the first three in HO ]-ss, the half in 49 3-5s and the full journey in 1 .'JO.
Elude, Minervnl and Red Heckle were associated in a working gallop over a mile, taking 1.47 3-5. Dunraven ran six furlongs well in 1.17, tho last three in 395. Cricket Bat. assisted by Ball Dress, was sent seven furlongs, finishing in front in 1.29 1-5. Ho will be in strong demand for the Thompson Handicap, in which he will be ridden by A. E. Ellis. Fast Passage's Condition. Taragona had half a length advantage from Shatter at (he end of seven furlongs in 1.30 3-5, the last three in 39 3-ss. Taiagona will have the services of I. Tilson in the high-weight events at Trentham. Fast Passage drew attention to her condition by galloping nine furlongs in 1.56 2-5. the first half in 51s. and the last half in 53 2-ss. Sailor's Love accompanied her for tho last seven furlongs. Moorbird. with a feather-weight up, gave an encouraging display in easily accounting for Grecian Prince over six furlongs in 1.10, last three in 40s. Whilo Moorbird does some outstanding work in her gallops on the plough Grecian Prince has seldom won a trial. Moorbird will probably race on the second day at Trentham. If so she will be ridden by A. E. Ellis. A decision in regard to Grecian Prince has not yet been made, but he will carry out his Thompson Handicap engagement if a suitable rider is obtainable. Tho Quorn headed Desert Song at the cud of four furlongs in 52 3-5, but neither was ridden out. Tarquinius nnd True Shaft strode over six furlongs in I.IS 2-5. and Verden covered five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. Red Royal, joined by Niggerhead at the six furlongs, galloped seven furlongs in 1.33 2-5, the first half in 51 2-ss. Monastic showed that he is partial to a journey by galloping seven furlongs jn 1.29 2-5. tho first half in 49 3-ss. Taku Tama joined him near the six furlongs post nnd finished a little in front. Monastic will be ridden at Westport by A. H. Eastwood and Taku Tama by R. Coveny. Both should again race prominently. Gay Crest and Charmeuso. On the course proper tho trestles were placed some forty feet out from tho rails and tho portion of the track used was very fast, especially before the breakfast hour. Gay Crest and Charmeuso were companions in a six furlongs task. The former broke away in front, but Charmeuso was on terms with him at the half-mile and finished half a length in front in the good time of 1.15 3-ss, the last half taking 50s. Gay Crest did his work well and with a reasonable passage in the Thompson Handicap will bo a source of trouble at tho business end. Chnrmeuso should collect some monev at Westport, where she will be ridden by M. Kirwan and her chance with 7.12 in tho Great Easter Handicap again looks favourable. A rider for her in this event, has not yet been booked. Tout In Mond and Hilary impressed by recording 1.17 for six furlongs. Hilary was going the better at the finish. Ramo and Solwit were despatched from tho mile post, running the first half in 51 3-5s and tho full distance in 1.43 1-5. Solwit showed promise by keeping with his companion right up to the post.. Ranelagh was responsible for another* attractive effort in galloping a mile. Rational 11. joining him after' a furlong had been covered. Tho first half took 50 3-5s and tho full journey 1.42, Rational 11. finishing in front. JOTTINGS FROM DUNEDIN. AL JOLSON'S QUICK RETURN. [BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DUNEDIN, Saturday. Tho real bargain of the sale of Mr. G. ,T. Barton's stock may prove to bo Worship, the two-year-old by Pombal from Homage, who brought 300gus. He has grown into a big youngster and shows size and substance, requiring time for liini to develop. The wise policy of being easy on him in his-first season should bear good fruit and ntfxt season ho will fill the eye as one likely to prove not the loast distinguished of a very successful family. Worship is to remain in S. G. Ware's stable. Among other cheap lots at tho salo was A 1 Jolson, who realised 130gns. and has already pair! for himself by winning at Cromwell. The Tea Tray—Puttee two-year-old Mayam should also prove a gift at 40gns.
Solium*, who won a double ai the Wincatui summer meeting, is again going well in his work, lie ricked liiniaelf in a gallop on the eve of (lie Dunedin Clip meeting nnd did not start in consequence. On a clear day and on a firm track lie can go fast and may be worthy of note for coming even ts. The imported colt Irish Lancer, owned by Mr. A. H. Fisher, has been given every chance to acclimatise and is now commencing to show promise of reward for the patience bestowed fin him. He is a handsome colt and shapes well in his work, but requires racing experience. Overhaul hns been shaping satisfactorily in his schooling over fences find after racing at Riverton at. Kaster may be sent North for the Auckland winter meeting. Heather Lad and Matu are well forward for the Riverton meeting and the former looks so sound and well that he is worthy of nolo if he continues to stand up to his work. Palermo looks bright and well and nt this time of the year when the sting is generally out of the going he may b© found repeating his best form.
