NOTES ON THE RACING.

TWO DOUBLE WINNERS. DARK MARBLE, WELCOME BOY. VICTORY FOR MOLLY HOLM. BY ARCIIEB. Dark Marble was backed down to rddfion for the Trial Plate Handicap and he duly .scored. J.udy Rata was left at. the post, and Royal Menu showed out first from Star Lap, Dark Marble and Intaglio. With a furlong covered Star Lap. Dark Marble and Intaglio went on in the lead together abend of Roynl Menu and raced abreast for another furlong. Star Lap then gained a slight advantage and turning for home she just led Dark Marble, who was two lengths clear of Intaglio, with Royal Menu next. Once the straight was reached Dark Marble asserted his superiority to score easily by a length from Star Lap, who was another length ahead of Intaglio. Momonatui was fourth, followed by Silver Division and Royal Menu. Dark Marble was too good for the others, but Intaglio is a solid-looking customer who should improve. A good pool on the Alf Brown Memorial Handicap saw Royal Gallant a better favourito than Marshland and ho scored nicely after being in front almost all the way. Marshland showed out first from Laptown and Royal Gallant, but Royal Gallant was quickly in command to lead into the straight from Marshland, Prince, Laptown, Searcher and Arch Eagle. Once into the straight the loaders bunched and Royal Gallant held his own to win by a length from Searcher, who defeated .Marshland by a neck. Arch Eagle right up fourth, succeeded by Laptown, Wee Prince and Tarclia. Royal Gallant began well and never looked like being beaten. Searcher ran on fairly well, but Arch Eagle was doing better than anything else right at the end. Marshland had every chance and was fairly beaten. An End-to-End Victory. Only fivo started in the Tauranga Cup and Alloy was a solid favourite over To Money. Alloy was responsible for a good showing, but never looked like beating Paganelli, the third fancy, who led from ond to end. A good start was effected and Paganelli soon had a lead of about five lengths from Llanore and To Money, who wero two lengths clear of Alloy, with Flying Prince tailed off. Paganelli was steadied along the back, where the others closed up slightly, but he was still a eouplo of lengths clear at the turn, where Llanore, Alloy and To Money were next. Nothing could reach Paganelli in tho straight and he won comfortably by a length and aquarter from Alloy, who defeated Llanore by a neck. To Money was a fair fourth, with Flying Prince some lengths back last. If was Pagnnelli's first win at a mile and a-quarter and he did it well under his big weight. Mclnally allowed him to stride along freely from barrier-rise and then gavo him a "breather" in tho middle stages with the result that he ran on strongly at the end. Alloy finished on in his usual solid stylo and may have done slightly belter if he had been up closer in the middle stages. Llanore was pulling most of the way and then weakened in the last furlong. Herries' Memorial Contest. Last year's winner, Welcome Boy, was backed down to odds-on for the Herries Memorial Hack Cup, and lie led all the way to win ensily. Welcome Boy wns quickly in thojead from Transaction, with Free Air and Limex following. These positions were maintained along the back and Welcome Boy was still the leader at the home turn, where Free Air,_ Limex and Simeon were abreast, next. Nothing had a chanco with Welcome Boy in the run home and he won easily by two and a-half lengths from Transaction. Limex was a neck away third, and Free Air was fourth. finish were Simeon and Valorous Knight, with Tohu Kingi beaten off last. Welcome Boy was always going like a winner and scored handsomely. lie has a great record on this courso and this was the third successive year that ho has figured as a winner at the meeting Limex went well to the turn, but failed to finish very strongly. The Greerton Handicap attracted only five runners and Hit the Deck was a good favourite but he had to lower his colours to Holly Holm, who was third fancy at a fair price. Llanore jumped out clear from No. 1 to give way to Holly Holm after going slightly more than a furlong. With three furlongs covered Flying Prince ran up fast from the rear and joined- Ilolly Holm in the lead at the top. Ilolly Holm and Flying Prince were the leaders rounding the bend, wliere Llanore and Hit the Deck were both handy. Holly Holm stalled off a challenge from Hit tho Dock in the straight to win by a length. Llanore was a neck away third, and Flying Prince fourth, with Vnlueless last. Hit the Deck made a fine effort, in the last half furlong. He appeared unlucky to lose, as he did not get out too well and was also checked twice during the race. Welcoma Boy Again. Penalised 101b for his previous win. Wei-' come Boy again displayed his partiality for the courso by leading all the way ( to score at a good price in the President's Hack Handicap, for which Hiata and Royal Gallant were best supported. There „was a tiresomo delay at the start, Valreina, Tarcha and Star of tho East all giving trouble. When they wero eventually let go the seiujoff was very uneven, Hinln catching the tapes and losing lengths, while Royal Gallant and Marshland were also slow away. Welcome Boy hopfied out very smartly and he carried on tho running for about two furlongs, when he was joined by Royal Gallant. Welcome Boy and Royal Gallant were still in charge at tho turn from Ruby Dawn, Laptown, lliata and Marshland. In a good race home Welcome Boy stayed on to win by half a length from Ruby Dawn, who defeated Royal Gallant by a head. Marshland was fourth., succeeded by Hiata and Laptown. Royal Gallant, Marshland and Hiata were all unlucky, and with all even start Hiata would have won. This was Welcome's Boy fifth win on tho course in the last three meetings there. Another field of five came out for tho County Stakes Handicap and Dark Marble, who was an odds-on favourite, justified his favouritism by again winning easily. Star Lap made the early running from Intaglio and Dark Marble, but Dark Marble moved up at the turn and had no difficulty in winning by two lengths from Intaglio, who beat Star Lap by a neck. Silver Division was right lip fourth and Momonatui was last. Dark Marble again proved himself a class above tho others, and Intaglio confirmed tho good impression he created in the first race. Ganpat's Good Finish. Six scralehings left, only four runners in the Plying Handicap, and Ganpat, at, oddson, was over twice as well supported as tho second fancy. Tea Chat. The favourite duly materialised but ho had little to spare from Tea Chat, who led tinlil right within a few strides of the post. Tea Chat was quickest, away and at, the end of a furlong led by a couple of lengths from Onnpat. who was followed by Lucky Alice and Alloy. Nearing the turn Ganpat ran to within a length of Tea Chat and ho finished on strongly to gain winning honours by ii, bend. Alloy, finishing strongly, was half a length away third and Lucky Alice was fourth. Ganpat registered a solid performance. lea Chat displayed any amount of speed only to weaken near the end. Alloy shaped surprisingly well, and it was probably his best effort over a sprint distance.
