TAURANGA RESULTS.
PAGANELLI TAKES CUP. SPRINT RACE TO GANPAT. FIVE FAVOURITES SCORE. Delightful weath?r favoured (lie Bay of Plenty Jockey Club's meeting nt. Tauranga on Saturday and (here was a good attendance to witness what proved to be a very enjoyable day's sport. Features of (ho racing were tile success of favourites, five of whom were victorious, and horses trained by the Matamata trainer, R. J. Ma leer, who had two double winners, Welcome Boy and Dark Marble. Another interesting feature was that R. W. McTavish and O. W. Mclnally each rode three winners. McTavisli scoring on Dark Marble twice and Welcome Boy. and Mclnally on Pagnnelli, Royal Gallant and Holly Ilolm. The Tauranga Cup was decisively won by the top weight, Pagnnelli, who carried the substantial weight of 0.1 '2 to score ail end-to-end victory. It was Paganelli's first, success at a mile and a-quarter and lie ran the distance out very solidly nfter being well ridden by Mclnally. The Flying Handicap fell to Gnnpnt, an odds-on favourite, and the Ilerries Memorial Hack Cup was won by Welcome Boy, last yeci's winner, who was also successful in the President's Handicap. Welcome Boy seems to be decidedly partial to tho Tauranga course and has won five races at the last three meetings held there. Speculation on the totalisator was fairly brisk, but the fact that there were four onedividend fields curtailed the betting to some extent and the turnover dropped from ill,olß 103 last year to £7012, a decrease of £lool'> 103, or just over 3G per cent.
