OUTPUT OF MINERALS.
BRITISH COLUMBIA'S YEAR. HEAVY DECLINE IN VALUE. The low prices for metals in 1931 had a considerable effect npon the gross value of the mineral production of British Columbra. The mines of the province produced minerals valued at 36:567.300 dollars (or about £7,000,000 at par) during last year compared with a production value" of '55.391,993 dollars (£11,000,000) in 1930. The tonnage of jore mined in 1931 is estimated at 5,410,000 tons, compared with 6.803,846 tons in 1930. Compared with 1930, there is a decline of 34 per cent, in the production value, but of only 18 per cent, in the aggregate quantity output. The quantity production of metals and minerals in 1930 was the highest in the history of mining in the province and when consideration is given to general world conditions and the necessity of marketing the bulk of metallic production outside the province, it is considered very satisfactory that the industry continued- to operate at 82 per cent, of the 1930 rate. * '
