CLUB TRIAL FOUR RACING. | L. BALL WINS DINGLEY CUP. STEWART TROPHIES DECIDED. Three rowing clubs conducted (rial four racing on Saturday afternoon in splendid weather. Auckland and St. George's rowed off the M. O. Stewart trophies and tho Thomas Dingley Memorial Cup and miniatures respectively on the lamaki Drive course, while North Shore members raced for trophies presented by Mr. W. J. Hamp-ton-Reynolds. All the races were rowed against tho tide, those taking" place in the late afternoon being in a south-westerly wind that chopped tip the water considerably. The standard of rowing was high, as with the Auckland regatta last week and the Ngaruawahia regatta next Saturday most oarsmen are in hard training. Tho most surprising win of the day was at St. George's, where L. Ball won the Dingley Memorial Cup by 15 lengths in a runaway race. P. Hewlett and W. Dean were tho successful strokes at the Auckland and North Shore sheds. ST. GEORGE'S CLUB. AN OUTSTANDING WIN. Members of the St. George's Rowing Club competed for tho Thomas Dingley Memorial Cup and miniatures. As a low tide prevented rowing on the usual course in Ilobeon Bay the crews used the Tnmaki Drive course, from the eastern gap to Campbell's Point. Tho feature of a day's close racing was the surprise and outstanding win of L. Ball. Ho is stroke of the club's light maiden crew and his first success in (hat seat and m club trials was a 15 lengths' win from C. W. D'Authreau on Saturday. The crews in the first heat were:—C. W. D'Authreau. V. Davies. F. G. Snedden. A. McElwain; I. C. Horton. I). Lawt'ord. J. 11. Kirkland, A. Slyfield; J. R. H. Biss. J. Colebrook. K. Jackson. Price. Tho crews left tho start evenly. D'Authreau's coming a little ahead. At the western gap the four was a. length and a-lialf away from Biss with Horton, whose bow had a "crab" twice, third. Tho placings wero the same at the flag. The crews in the second heat were:— L. Ball. G. Brown, A. Andrews, It. N. Alpe; W. Carr, P. Williams, V. Dunne. O'Garman: W. Woolhouse, C. Kellaway. J. Kay, R. Bowie. Woolhouse came out at the start, but Ball and Carr passed him on the journey over Hobson Bay. Ball increased his lead and won by three lengths from Carr. Woolhouse was two lengths further back. In the third heat Woolhouse, 11. Hilliard. Milliard and C. Jenkin met H v Tone, T. Morris, J. Kirkland and P. Kay. Little separated the fours until Point Resolution was reached, where Tong took the lead. Woolhouse made repeated efforts to pass him, but. in a great finish Tong held on to win by two feet. The crews nf D'Authreau. Ball and Tout met in the final. Ball went ahead at. the start. He held a. commanding lead all t lie way winning by 15 lengths from D'Authreau, who, in spite of losing his oar twice, overtook Tong, beating him by a length and a-half.

AUCKLAND CLUB'S TROPHIES. HEWLETT'S CREW SUCCESSFUL. The Auckland Rowing Club conducted trial four racing from the eastern gap to Campbell's Point for trophies presented bv Mr. M. 0. Stewart. Four crews took pnrt. P. Hewlett's four be.ing the eventual winners. Tho donor of the trophies was judge. Tho crews in the first heat were:—J. McComish, A. Bridle. T. Morton. I'. "Wilson: L. Hughes, F. Foote. G. Field, W. Haslett. The crews were together up to Point Resolution, where McComish went forward. Hughes endeavoured to pass his rival, hut in the sprint to tho flag McComish just kept him off, winning by lialf-a-length. The entrants in the second heat were P. Hewlett. A. Stewart. G. Richardson. A. McDonald: V, Corbett. G. Franks. W. Duck. E. Bindon. As in the previous heat the crews rowed together to near the western gap. Hero Hewlett went away and increased tho lead to two lengths at the line. The. fours of McComish and Hewlett met in the final. Both left, the mark vigorously, but there was little advantage to either over Hobson Bay However, off the reof, Hewlett had made a, gap from McComish which he managed to hold during a great finish. llis crew won by a length.

NORTH SHORE CLUB. W. DEAN'S NARROW VICTORY. Four crews of the North Shore Rowing Club raced 011 Saturday over the club's usual course for trophies presented by Mr. W. J. Hampton-Reynolds. After a series of exceptionally close and exciting races the crew of W. Dean proved the winners, reaching the lino in the final three-quarters of a length ahead of R. Sherley. Ihe donor of tho trophies was the judge. In the first heat C. Oliver. B. Rutledge. .T. Dakers and R. Eagles, and W. Dean. W. Sotham, D. Walsh and J. McArthur entered the water. Dean soon Inok the lead, holding it for half the distance, where Oliver drew up. The two crews raced together, but Dean sprinted Hearing home, going 011 to win by half-a-length. The. crews in the second heat were;—F. Norris, S. McDougall, J. Woodhouse. 11. Jndkins; R. Sherley, C. Willetts, B. Knowles, V. Mallett. Norris led .by a fair margin until the wash of a passing launch disconcerted the four. Shirley's crew was not, troubled and moved ahead. In a. stirring finish Sherley won by a canvas. The wind, which had not affected conditions in the heats, was in evidence in the final, a south-westerly chopping up the water. After Dean and Sherley had run together for a quarter of the distance the first-named forced ahead. Successive challenges by Sherley were held off. but nearing the shed Dean was hustled and just man acred to bring his four in ahead and won by three-quarters of a length. EVF.NT AT HAMILTON.
