BUYING BRITISH GOODS.
Sir, —We exporters have been urged by Sir James Parr and of hers who have our country's good at heart to prepare for the Ottawa Conference. It appears that in June we are to be given a choice. Either we must substantially increase our imports from Britain or we must surrender our only market to our eager rivals. The latter course spells ruin to New Zealand exporter, to New Zealand importer and to all between. Therefore, let us inform our representatives in no uncertain voice that we are eagfer to open wide our doors to British trade. Britain gives us a free market for £60,000,000 worth of our produce. Let us not lag behind our rivals in generosity. Although on account of our overseas debt we cannot import £50,000,000 worth of goods, these debts do not prevent us from offering Britain a free market for £50,000,000 worth of her exports. We spend thousands of pounds on Empire marketing propaganda and advertising schemes. In one gesture we would obtain the complete goodwill of the British people, which would be worth more than years of advertising.
